                     THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD(CONTD)

  3.   INTELLIGENCE

There is an African adage that says 'a woman is like an object in a tied bag . A man cannot know what it contains until he takes it home and opens it. In making a choice of a lifemate, there is the need to apply your God given intelligence. This goes beyond asking questions or observing characters it involves getting to remove the veil of pretence from your partner and knowing the true nature of the person.

A brother met a sister in a church and asked for her hands in marriage. After the prerequisite counselling and courtship, they were joined together in 'holy ' matrimony. It was after the death of their third child that the husband discovered she was a witch.

Another sister married a Pastor and was glad to have been married to a seemingly pious man only to discover that he had been married in Jos with children.

These people did not use their God given intelligence to know if there was pretence and deception in their relationships. When a man or woman is rushing you into a secret wedding without the consent of both families, beware he/she has something to hide.

4. ACCURACY

You must be accurate in your assessment of the. Marriage is not just about what you see, know or observe alone, do whatever is necessary to know the person skin deep.

* we have heard of men who are sexually incapacitated. The wife got to know on the night of the wedding

* there was the case of the bride without a vaginal opening

* there was this case in southern part of Nigeria where a man was married to a woman who had the power to transform herself to a snake.

To choose accurately therefore, you must choose with God.

A youth who wants to choose accurately will not

a. Be unequally yoked

b. Choose for beauty. I remember a female colleague of mine ( now deceased) who put up so many conditions to be met by her would be husband; conditions like height, looks, status, she ended up not meeting her dream man till her death (may her soul rest in peace)

c. Choose someone with an unpleasant or ungodly habits

d. Choose someone who disrespects his/her/your parents. Your intending lifemate MUST respect your parents. Once you observe any sign of disrespect towards your parents it is better to walk away.

e. Choose someone who is too materialistic- clothings, jewelleries, money, outing, etc. He/she will eventually leave you when those things are not sufficient for her lifestyle

f. Choose someone who pesters you for sex

CHECKLIST #3 DO I TRULY LOVE HIM/HER? Love, lust, infatuation are experiences with very fragile line of demarcation.  A woman who is driven by infatuation may become a victim of a man who is driven by lust. The union between this two will crash and the pieces  will be so difficult to put together. Any marriage contracted out of genuine love between the two parties will end well. The question to ask is;  am I marrying him because of his build or her beauty? If he or she becomes 70 years old with bald head or falling teeth, will I still love him/her? In case of severe sickness, can I clear his waste without pinching my nose or twisting my mouth? Supposed there are no children, will he /she still be the apple of my eyes? There is the story of this lady who was diagnosed with cancer a few months after her wedding. She was made to go through chemotherapy treatment and after the treatment, she looked 80 years older than her normal age with fallen hair and wrinkled face....

BEFORE GETTING MARRIED     MATURITY BEFORE GETTING MARRIED   It is a known fact that maturity is key in marriage. Marriage, whichever way or place it is consummated is  not for kids. A successful marriage can only be built by two matured people who are willing to  - Make sacrifices in whichever way it is demanded  - Forgive as many times as offences come  - Overlook faults as if they never occurred  Unfortunately, maturity does not always come with age and for most people, it has to be consciously learnt and practiced.  If you want to make your marriage work, you must start making efforts before  the wedding date  is fixed to “wake up and grow up “. You must be determined to grow as an individual and develop your minds, intellect and emotions to the maximum level that can ensure peaceful co-habitation.  Even though the following list is not inclusive, to have a joyous marriage, individua...
