MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE Marriage.... an institution desired by the singles, a bond that delights the happily married and a nightmare, derided by the disappointed and the heartbroken.... According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual or contractual relationship recognized by law". It goes further by including the rather contentious definition that has to do with the "union between two persons of the same sex".
